Use case
Whenever a new concept is introduced, it's common to have a swirling in the head as to why you should use it, whether it is essential, whether it is worth your time, and so on.
Say we are building a nodejs application & downloaded the latest nodejs docker image. As most of us know, nodejs downloads hundreds/thousands of dependencies & sub-dependencies.
Let's say we want different licenses involved with this nodejs project. SBOMs can be of real help to identify this in one go. Since SBOMs contain valuable information about applications & components, it's safe to ensure they are tamper-proof.
We can write more custom queries depending on the use case. Another use case would be extracting information on dependencies with no license. They might be dangerous to use. We can flag or monitor them for malicious updates/supply chain attacks.
Node image
For this use case, we pick the standard node image from dockerhub. We will list only the unique licenses.
